College Education Connection July 2009-December 2009

Due to the high interest in the program, we have decided to hold the program sessions in the Winona and St. Charles areas.  (Lewiston students are invited to come to the program in either of the two locations.)

As of November, we have worked with over 45 high school students; helping them keep up with their grades, helping them make plans for post-secondary education, helping them apply for college, registering and preparing for the ACT examinations, generating their own profile from an interest assessment (MCIS program), and many other means of support.

Through the partnership with a professor from St. Mary's University, he provided us with eight mentors for our students.

We provided an extra program, the Thankgiving Dinner, to thank the students and parents for their hard work and dedication to Project FINE and our youth programs.  We had a wonderful number of roughly 100 attendees, not including the mentors and volunteers.  Of the hundred, one-fourth were high school students.

The sessions for parents have ended in September with the Parents and Teachers Dialogue, but both parents and students are continuing to support the program and attended the sessions in both the October and November months.

We have reached our target goal of obtaining 70 participants to the program within the first five months of the program! As of November, we have 74 high school students and high school graduates (that have not signed for college) who are dedicated to the CEC program.  This includes attending the evening programs, as well as asking for additional support during the days we visited the schools.
