Fatima Said, Executive Director

Fatima Said joined Project FINE as its Executive Director in July, 2005. A refugee to the United States from her native Bosnia, she came to Project FINE with backgrounds in education and in business, as well as 12 years of experience as a teacher and director of the Head Start program at Child Care Resources and Referral in Rochester. In addition to her duties at Project FINE, Fatima also is very involved in both the Rochester and Winona communities. She is an active member and former chair of the Board of Directors of the Intercultural Mutual Assistance Association in Rochester, a member of the Rochester Public Health Advisory Board, a member of the Winona County Criminal Justice Coordinating Council, a member of the Winona Human Rights Commission, a member of the Winona Area Public Schools Diversity Advisory Committee and Staff Development Committee. As Executive Director, Fatima provides direction for the organization, builds partnerships in the Winona community, including with businesses, government agencies and nonprofit organizations. Fatima and Project FINE seek to sustain Winona as a community that welcomes all newcomers and is sensitive to cultural diversity.  The organization continues to help immigrants and refugees adjust to life in their new homes, and become active, contributing members of the community.

 

Chong Sher Vang, Operations Manager/Language Coordinator

Chong emigrated with his family from Laos, via Thailand, at age 8. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee in Criminal Justice. Chong worked for Community Health Services for two years and became a full-time staff member at Project FINE in 2001. He is responsible for the Interpreter Network including recruiting, training, supervising, supporting and scheduling. He is highly effective in helping individuals and families navigate community systems and get connected with needed services and resources.

 

Dyan Laska, Bookkeeper

Dyan started working with Project FINE in December of 2005.  She grew up in Winona and graduated from Winona Technical College for Accounting in 1992. Dyan has worked in the accounting/payroll field at Technical Die Casting, Hiawatha Valley Ed District, Bluffview Montessori, as well as having her own business called Papertails Business Services, which she operates with her mother.  She is also a tax preparer for small business and individuals.  Dyan is married and has two girls and they live in Fountain City, WI.

 

Katherine (Katie) Van Eijl, Family & Youth Outreach Coordinator

Katie joined Project FINE as the Family and Youth Outreach Coordinator in June 2009.  She grew up in Minnesota and completed her bachelor's degree in Education at Winona State University in 2004. Katie has experience working with children in the school and day care settings.  She coordinates the Diversity Youth Quest program in Winona and St. Charles. Katie is married and has two children.

 
Maria Rodriguez, Hispanic/ Latino Community Liaison
Maria grew up in Winona, MN. She attended Winona Senior High School. In July 2005, she started working with Project FINE as a Spanish Interpreter. In June 2006 she became a VISTA Volunteer for Project FINE. Maria’s time is spent helping clients between Winona and St. Charles. Working with the diverse population of Winona County has been a good experience for Maria. Outside of work, Maria dedicates her time to her little sister and her family. In the future Maria plans to continue helping people in Winona County and will pursue a career in nursing.

 

Guadalupe Pantoja, VISTA Volunteer

Guadalupe first migrated to the United States with her family in 1994 from Guanajuato, Mexico. She migrated to Saint Charles in September 2001, and upon seeing the work that Project FINE does for the community, she became a VISTA Volunteer for Project FINE in 2008. Guadalupe provides assistance to newcomers in the Saint Charles area from the Project FINE office location in City Hall. Guadalupe has 4 children and aspires to pursue a future career in law enforcement.

 
Houa Vang, Family Education Coordinator

Houa grew up in Winona, MN.  She attended Winona State University majoring in Community Health and has a minor in Sociology.  She has received her Bachelor of Science degree in Health, Exercise and Rehabilitative Sciences in Fall 2009. Prior to her position with Project FINE, she has been interpreting and volunteered on various projects since 2007. Her primary focus is on writing grants for the various programs that are implemented through Project FINE and coordinate the College Education Connection program for 2009-2010.  In the future, she plans on pursuing a Masters degree in Public Health, specifically working with women and children.

 
Jamison McClure , Program Coordinator Assistant, Intern

Jamison is a senior attending Saint Mary's University of Minnesota, in Winona.  She is majoring in Global Studies.  As an intern, Jamison is responsible for assisting with the development of programs and providing aid to Project FINE in pursuing the mission of the organization.  She will also be mentoring and tutoring students.  Her internship with Project FINE will be from January until the end of April, 2010.  Jamison has had experience working with children through coaching soccer and volunteering in schools.
